Frequently Asked Questions
To make your journey easier, we’ve compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions about our tours, services, and destinations. This section will help you prepare with confidence, so you can focus on enjoying your unforgettable East African adventure.
When is the best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda?
The best time for gorilla trekking is during the dry seasons: June to September and December to February. Trails are less muddy, and visibility is better. However, trekking is possible year-round, and the wet seasons offer lush scenery and fewer crowds.
Do I need a visa for Uganda and Rwanda?
Yes. Most travelers require a visa. However, both countries offer an East Africa Tourist Visa, which allows multi-entry travel between Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya for up to 90 days. We can guide you through the application process.
How much does a gorilla permit cost, and how do I get one?
Uganda: USD $800 per person (foreign non-residents)
Rwanda: USD $1,500 per person
Permits are limited and sell out quickly. We recommend booking at least 3–6 months in advance, and Kizza Holidays will secure your permit as part of your tour package.
Is gorilla trekking suitable for older travelers or children?
Yes, but there are age and fitness considerations.
Minimum age: 15 years in both Uganda and Rwanda.
Fitness level: Moderate – treks can last 1–6 hours over steep, uneven terrain.
We offer private treks and can arrange porters to assist. Custom itineraries are available for families and senior travelers.
What vaccinations and health precautions do I need?
Commonly recommended vaccines include Yellow Fever (mandatory), Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and Tetanus. Malaria is present, so antimalarials and insect repellent are strongly advised. Always consult your travel doctor at least 4–6 weeks before departure.
How do I get around Uganda and Rwanda?
We provide private, comfortable 4×4 safari vehicles with professional English-speaking driver-guides. For travelers short on time, domestic charter flights between national parks are also available. Airport pickups and drop-offs are always included.
